Back to Basics - Hemisphere & Quadrant Emphasis

Since I've been studying astrology more extensively for the past 7 or 8 years, I've come across many techniques that I enjoy learning about but I also find myself reading over the basics again when an article about them crosses my path and I find that I discover new meaning in them.

In my first post I mentioned the man that I met in the past year and how he dramatically impacted my life.  Just for the sake of ease, let's just call him "Joe".  Obviously I looked at his charts and our charts together and ran charts for other people in his family and life. One of the great things about meeting someone new is to use them as motivation to learn more.

"Joe" has his Sun in his 11th House and has 5 planets in his upper left quadrant. He has 2 more planets conjuncting his Ascendant and another planet in his 3rd House. That makes 8 planets in the left hemisphere. He has one planet in the 5th house and one in the 6th, with no planets in the upper right quadrant.

This was an interesting study for me in opposite chart emphasis since 5 of my own planets are in the upper right quadrant and none of my planets are in the upper left quadrant. Add to this that 4 of my planets are in the lower left quadrant, two of these conjunct the descendant and the remaining 10th planet in my 12th House.  I have a bucket chart with the "handle" in the form of Mars in Pisces in the 12th House - not the best or strongest placement for the planet of energy and action but that is a whole other posting in and of itself.

So, since I've been merrily going along doing charts with planet energy in Signs and House descriptions and giving the quadrant and hemisphere emphasis there just due in the interpretations, I now feel that making a much larger deal about this life point of view is called for.  And frankly, it really won't make much difference to the person in individual readings but when they begin needing to find out how they function in relationships, that is when this is a major factor in terms of relationship expectations.

I mean, let's face it . . . 11th House Sun is functioning "out there in the world" in the groups and masses of people they meet.  In that realm they do a fabulous job especially when they have a Libra Sun as "Joe" does.  The 11th House is that of Friends, Hopes, Wishes, Groups, etc. That actually fits him quite nicely as he is very into spreading good feelings out into the world one little, non-personal hit at a time. It's what he does and he does it extremely well in a very humanitarian sort of way. Those are the positives.

The challenge with the 11th House Sun is that enjoying close intimate personal relationships is more difficult for them. As my trusty first astrology book I bought on charting says, "The subject must be careful not to distance himself from close contact with others. There can be conflict here."

It has occurred to me that all of us who live our lives in one way and have our own perceptions can not see life nor feel it from the perspective of another person.  Human interactions teach us these things if we are wiling to listen and at least acknowledge that another viewpoint exists. This is a core life lesson to learn that some of us have in our "make-up" (chart).

As I thought about the 11th House further in terms of Joe and what that meant to him, it occurred to me that not only was my Progressed Sun already in my 11th House and had been for about 7 years, but my Progressed Sun was changing Signs from Capricorn to Aquarius this year, in my 11th House. I think it was a good time to meet Joe which gave me a push to investigate just what I'm supposed to be doing with this newly acquired energy.

I suppose being very oriented to other people in my life, it is now time to wake up and smell the "invest in yourself and make an impact in groups" developing part of myself. After all, I think perhaps my Chiron at 7ยบ Aquarius is there for a reason, right?  Interestingly, many things fall into place when at the time you just don't realize that things are all coming together for a reason.

After pondering these 4th quadrant and eastern hemisphere vs. western sphere chart emphasis for awhile I looked at some of the other charts in my files. As it turns out my very own Mother has a very strong 4th quadrant chart! That really put some missing pieces of the puzzle together for me with her and why she is so self-sufficient and sometimes seemingly aloof. Self-sufficiency is definitely a big part of having a strong 4th quadrant chart. I would love to develop more of that self-sufficiency. I mean, I love doing things on my own, but there are some days when I would just like to have a partner in crime to run around with doing errands or those especially unpleasant errands, like going to pay bills, etc.  Having someone to talk and laugh with, for me, makes life more pleasant and much more bearable. Of course, that could also be my "let's go and have fun" Sag Sun part of me. It may also have to do with Leo being on my 6th House of daily routines.

I've noticed things about the other quadrants that I can fairly easily recognize in people now that I meet. I have a friend who seems very "into herself" and she has a 1st house quadrant emphasis. While also very self-sufficient, this is the quadrant where people focus on "themselves" and that is so apparent many times. I can easily spot these people now. In addition, the 2nd House quadrant people are also working on themselves (vs. top of the chart quadrants who focus on "out there" people and things), these people tend to get "hurt" more than others I've noticed. I think it's all in your perspective and from what corner of the char you may be looking out from.

So don't forget to place a proper amount of emphasis on the quadrants and hemispheres and include them as major factors to take into consideration in terms of life orientation and personal relationships.
